Things I’d Like to Do in my Life, but don’t think I can do right now list
In no particular order:
1. Drive on a racetrack and compete in a race
2. Compete or participate in a large road rally like the Gumball 3000
3. Ride across a continent on a motorcycle
4. Have an album of songs written and performed by me
5. Watch a live show in my own music venue/bar
The other day I read an article about fear and how it stops people from doing and living the life they want to live. I decided that the article didn’t follow through with what to do about overcoming fear and going for what you want in life. Therefore, I decided to go ahead and try to answer my own question.
The above is a short list of things that I’d like to do but don’t think I can do. I have lots of reasons why I don’t think I can do these things which range from the usual, “I don’t have enough time/money/talent/knowledge/skill” to the actual fears such as “What if I get hurt/lost/rejected or go bankrupt/wasting my time lose my job/friends/family/girlfriend”
The first step for me by writing this list is to identify the things that I want and recognize the reasons that stop me from pursuing them. All of these goals cost something, whether it’s time or money or something else, but if I can cross them off my list in life, is it not worth the cost?
I was once surprised by some advice that I gave a friend and I said something along these lines “If you could buy your own happiness, wouldn’t you pay everything you own to have it?” I think that if you think about what that means, it’s true. People pay money for lots of things and many times it’s because they want to be happier. Money and material things won’t make you happy, but maybe achieving the goals in your life will help you understand how to be happy.
The fact is, between where I am now, and what I need to do to achieve these goals is not that large of a gap. What do I need to do internally and personally the will allow me to overcome the small gaps that stand in the way? I’ll follow up on this next time.
